Yoshinori Kawachi,
Dean of Faculty of Music and Chair of Graduate School of Music,
Senzoku Gakuen College of Music

Senzoku Gakuen College of Music has taken a major step forward to determine the course it should take in order to further “pursue quality” and “elevate quality.” The expectations that society has of music colleges have become more diverse than ever before. One only needs to look at the vast variety of genres of music permeating society to see what direction the role of music colleges should take.
The music generally referred to as classical music is easy to understand both culturally and theoretically, and recognized everywhere in the world. However, it is of enormous importance to examine music from every age and from every corner of the world in the context of modern society, gain a much broader perspective without any prejudices, and firmly grasp what music truly is.
While classical music makes up the core of the studies, Senzoku Gakuen College of Music also provides the environment and systems for studying many genres of music. I hope you will continue to keep your eyes on Senzoku Gakuen College of Music as we move ever forward, and pursue and elevate quality.
Kazuo Tomioka,
Dean of Faculty of Music,
Senzoku Gakuen College of Music

Music is art; art is culture.
Since the beginning of mankind, people have been making progress in improving their lives and lifestyles. It is this progress that symbolizes and defines culture. In other words, culture is made up of politics, economics, science, medicine, and the arts. In addition to these elements, mankind has been using its knowledge to seek “the Road to the Greater Good,” “Greater Actions,” and “Greater Things.”
And among these elements, it is in art that one can feel the instincts and adventurous spirit of mankind. In art, there exists the delicate sensitivity that seeks out beauty. At the very forefront of art are music, the fine arts, and literature. Surely, there is no path more wondrous than the path that leads to the search for beauty. And it is for this reason that art has been so highly esteemed through the ages.
There are a large number of students at the College of Music who are following this wondrous path. These students are undertaking the challenge of trying out their talent and skills in the music world. Through music, these students are seeking how to live their lives as a human being. In the world of art, there are a vast number of things that define and express the “Greater” things we need to live our lives.
At Senzoku Gakuen College of Music, there are many such young students who are devoted to their studies as they pursue the path to become musicians. It is the heartfelt wish of all of us on the teaching staff that Senzoku Gakuen College of Music can provide these students with a place where they are able to find their own way of life. It is my sincerest hope that the students are able to enjoy a fruitful and unforgettable four years at this wonderful institution of learning.
