SGCM Composition Competition for Shakuhachi 2010
Organized by
Senzoku Gakuen College of Music
Cooperated by
SGCM Institute of Japanese Traditional Music
Overview
Senzoku Gakuen College of Music is pleased to announce a call for submissions in its competition for music compositions for the shakuhachi.
SGCM has consistently attempted to enliven the creative impulses of music artists, not only in traditional orchestral instruments, but also in jazz, musical theatre, rock, pop and traditional Japanese music. In addition to being a major instrument of Japanese traditional music, the shakuhachi is a direct conduit to the Japanese spirit. As such, it is increasingly gaining international recognition both in listenership and number of players. The goal of this competition is to open the door for talented composers to make a contribution to the field of Japanese traditional music.
The winning compositions will be considered for performance at the 5th SGCM Japanese Traditional Music Subscription Concert, subtitled “Origin of Shakuhachi” (Produced by Kifu Mitsuhashi), to be held at Tokyo Opera City Concert Hall, Takemitsu Memorial on October 10th, 2010.
